So what's new?

  • The combat log has been massively overhauled and will show spell and other effects for the player and monster characters. Dive in as deep as you want with extended mode, or just get the general gist of what just happened with the summary mode.
  • Five new skill trees! Heal wounds, afflictions and even regrow missing limbs with the Curing domain; grow allies and coat yourself with poisonous thorns with the Plant domain; Shield yourself and allies with the Protection domain; call down holy justice on blasphemers with the Smiting domain and command wind and lightning with the Weather domain.
  • That's a total of 26 new spells to play around with, and 87 skills.
  • Priests are now a class. Also, followers of the Church of Light can now finally spend all those Divine skill points.
  • The Heavy Armor skill tree was missing two skills. They're in now, and the tree can now be fully learned.
  • Protection Value (PV) is now no longer a static value. We now have hit locations where lucky hits may bypass PV entirely. This means shields are much more valuable now!
  • All spells are now correctly described in detail (including nestet tooltips if you want to peek at the actual formulas for calculating damage, range and everything else).
  • Spell skills now show the spell powers in detail.
  • Even in the upper levels, you will now encounter a much larger variety of interesting monsters. A bug has prevented the spawning of these. There'll still be kobolds galore, but they won't be the only enemy you face.
  • You will find more interesting weapons, armors and other items in the upper levels without having to crawl to the temple of Chaos all the way to the bottom.
  • Spell targetting can now be aborted, hopefully saving you precious power points on a misclick.
  • Magic Resistance now works against spells, too, and not just magical traps. There won't be that many enemy spellcasters just yet, though.
  • Keyboard and Gamepad controls are even better now. Let us know if you find something missing or odd!
  • No more question marks for missing textures. At least, we hope so. All items have been implemented graphically.
  • Male ratlings now look different from female ratlings.
  • We have added a ton of new and updated music tracks to the game. Enjoy!

The Story so Far

Evil has been vanquished. Peace has returned to Ancardia, and the peasants dare to dream once more of prosperity. Seven very different factions vie for control over the cataclysmic aftermath left behind by Andor Drakon’s defeat. And somewhere, deep down in an inhospitable cave, ChAoS is stirring again.

Pick up your blade, prepare your spells, check your daggers and ready your bow, for you are about to enter the ominous Caverns of Chaos. Choose your allegiance carefully, for you are nothing more than an expendable asset to the masters you choose.

Fight for a mercenary's glory and purse, for the justice of a folk in decline, for the light of purity or even for ChAoS itself. Every choice you make will determine how you approach the ever-changing Caverns of Chaos before you.


Features and Gameplay

  • Ultimate ADOM is a modern reimagining of traditional rogue-like dungeon-crawling.
  • Endless procedurally generated dungeons, countless monsters, items and a grand selection of very different skills allow for unlimited replayability
  • Intuitive control system will get rid of the need to memorize hundreds of keys. Though you can still do so, if you're into that. We are not judging.
  • Your chosen class, gender, race and allegiance will change the way the game challenges you. NPCs will react differently, new quests will be open to you and the world may change completely based on your performance.
  • A deep magic system with several unique schools of magic and dozens of spells per school. Flaming auras that damage nearby enemies, cold snaps that freeze rivers, animating the very walls of the dungeon to aid you - everything is possible.
  • Interactive items! Topple braziers to spill their burning oil on unsuspecting enemies. Push coffins to block passage ways, or smash them in hopes of loot. Lock doors, smash them, open them or turn them into wooden golems to (hopefully) serve your bidding.
  • Turn yourself into an abomination and graft your enemies’ body parts on yourself. They won’t need them any more, and what is better than wielding two swords? Two swords and an axe to harvest more bodyparts than ever before.
  • Choose or toggle between graphic mode and traditional ASCII at any time. Toggle between 3d mode and top down view, in ASCII or in the graphic mode. Toggle everything you wish, we probably have a game mode just for you.
  • “Play the way you want” – countless options of how to tackle the dungeons awaiting you. Befriend or tame creatures, slay monsters, delve deeper or keep exploring and expanding the cavern levels you have already found. Set traps and smash doors, or unlock them with the keys you found. Push coffins and other objects!

$666 for a game? Are you crazy???

Yes, we are crazy. But not THAT crazy. Actually right now are are running a closed alpha test for the game and early testers receive the game for free. Once we feel that it is more fun and stable we'll make the alpha available to a wider audience and reduce the price to $2 for as long as we stay in alpha. But we liked the number in the current price tag... so... yeah... we are a bit crazy. And now for the game...


The Early Access

Ultimate ADOM - Caverns of Chaos is not yet finished. What you're buying here is a version with maybe 30% of the final content. Out of the 60 skill trees we have planned for, there's only 12 available, and the faction quests and their associated metagame isn't even remotely ready yet. There will be bugs, and crashes, and we haven't even started to balance things.

So why buy in? Firstly, because we need your help. Ultimate ADOM is simple to learn, and fiendishly difficult to master. There's an insane amount of complexity hidden behind the few keystrokes you need to learn the game mechanics, and there is no way our small team can find and smash all the bugs.
And if you report enough bugs, you'll get the super awesome final version featuring all the content you can imagine (and then some) at GoG or Steam for free. That'll be a bit more expensive than the small charge we ask for here, though we haven't finalized a price point yet.
